Airborne dust makes furniture items look dull and nebulous. To keep your furniture dust-free and clean, you have to follow some guidelines.
While dusting wooden furniture, you can use soft and dry cloth. Smudging the cloth hardly on the furniture will cause dust to scatter into the air, which will ultimately get back on the furniture surface. So, it is better to dampen the cloth slightly to avoid scattering dust into the air. Feather dusters will help to clean the edges and intractable surfaces of the furniture. Feather dusters are useful for paintings, wall hangings, mirrors, and glass windows. Treated clothes are more recommended to protect the varnish or deco paint on furniture.
Classic lamb wool duster is very effective for curved surfaces of furniture, it easily vanishes the dust because of its lanolin duster. The long handle makes it easier to reach the curvy surfaces and unreachable areas. Lint-free cloth is ideal for glass furniture, as it can easily sweep away the dust present on the furniture. A dry towel can be used to remove any moisture and keep the furniture shiny and neat.
Cleaning sprays are also useful but don’t use them until you are aware of their proper usage. Chemical sprays are used specifically for plastic furniture such as kitchen tables. Try to avoid cleaning wooden furniture with water, as it will leave sticky spots on the furniture. And to clean these sticky spots, you will need to use detergent or soap with water. After cleaning the furniture with soap water or with detergent water, it is compulsory to dry the furniture with a clean towel.
Be careful when you use oil polish for furniture, as it attracts dust. Silicon oil is found in many commercial sprays. These sprays develop a protective layer on the furniture but sometimes these sprays react with the plastic paint coated on the furniture causing the paint to shed off.
Some homemade tips also work best to keep furniture clean. A mixture of gum turpentines, olive oil, and methylated spirit work well on furniture. Apply this mixture on furniture with a soft cloth and rub it with a clean cloth to give it a refreshing look.
Applying wax on furniture is another way to keep it clean and dust free. Wax protects varnish or other polishes and also keeps the furniture surface safe from catching scratches. Wax creates a hard layer on the furniture and this wax has long-lasting effects, compared to sprays and ordinary polishes. Paste wax or liquid wax is mostly used for furniture. Paste wax finishes lasts for two years and liquid wax lasts for less than one year. Liquid wax leaves thinner layer on the furniture. You may apply liquid wax more frequently than paste wax. It is recommended to apply the wax correctly to get rid of scratches or mist marks. Always apply wax with soft cloth and rub the surface of furniture gently.
